I bet most of you never thought you’d hear me say this.  My buddy Anthony at Richmond Hill CrossFit shared a nice article that communicates what I’ve been trying to tell everyone with the kip.  It’s easy to kip once you get the movement, however some of us tend to rely strictly on the kip and fail to establish a base.  I’ve always said that strength is the foundation of fitness and we need to especially keep that in mind when focusing on Gymnastic movements. I’m a BIG dude, and gymnastics are deffenatly by weakness, and I know how it feels to struggle with strict anything in gymnastics.  Nevertheless, we need to focus on quality of movement and not doing WODs RX.  The kip does build strength, I’m not going to argue that but there has to be a solid base before we start.
Enjoy the following article, and be sure to read the whole thing.
