Stronger Together

I’ve always said that CrossFit is much more than a workout.  What truly sets us apart is our community.  We sweat and suffer together and are connected through our suffering and pursuit of bettering ourselves both mentally and physically.  The…
Watching a few people work these past few weeks make me think whether they would be doing the same amount of work with the same type of intensity if they were at a commercial gym.  The answer is a resounding NO. They would be looked at and judged for being too “weird” or too intense.  Here we don’t pass judgement, we encourage, we push and we compete with one another.
I’ve also noticed that most people at our gym try and make an intentional effort to welcome new people, while others simply avoid the situation.  This is understandable as we all have different personalities and respond to situations differently.  However, we are a community that simply makes people feel welcome.  We don’t do cliques, we don’t leave people out; on the contrary, on any given day you would see the entire gym run the last lap with a member who’s struggling at the end of a workout.
Let us never forget who we are.  When a new person walks through our doors and looks intimidated, let’s make them feel at home. We’ve all been there; walking into the gym or garage and feeling intimidated, and thinking we can’t do the workout. But that feeling quickly disappears when the workout starts and the person beside you starts cheering you on.  For some, simply walking into our gym is a huge step, so let’s embrace them, make they feel valued, and encourage them because no matter who you are, we’ve all started at the very bottom.  Fitness is a journey, our community is unbreakable and we will always be STRONGER TOGETHER.
