Success is extremely difficult to define, however, most will agree that success is the ability to accomplish or attain a particular goal. When it comes to living a healthy lifestyle success is too often defined as attaining a dream beach body or simply losing a few pounds. I’d like to argue that success is achieved through consistency. CrossFit is truly humbling, as it crushes even the elite athlete. However, it truly rewards consistency.
We all live very busy lives as work, family and other responsibilities create stress and take quite a bit of our time. It is very easy to come home, have a beer and chill on the couch for the entire evening. Or on the other side of the spectrum, invest all of our time in our work or kids. I’m a strong believer that balance is key. Everyone needs to invest time in themselves and balance their responsibilities to the best of their ability. This is why consistency is so important in living a healthy lifestyle. We don’t always have the best workout, we don’t always have the best meal but if we continue to dwell on our failures, life will eat us up. What we need is consistency. I know I sound like a broken record but this is truly the key to success. Eating an extreme diet isn’t realistic for most people, neither is working out seven days a week. What we need to do is find a balance in our lives. Celebrate the small victories and simply show up. If you show up for a workout and have a terrible WOD then focus on the positive. YOU SHOWED UP!!!
You need to show up! The days we feel like having a crappy meal, and do nothing, are the most important days. These are the days we need to show up. You may not have the best workout and you may even feel like crap but the best thing is you showed and put in work. I heard a saying once that has stuck with me for a very long time; “BETTER THAN YESTERDAY”. So if you make mistakes, eat like crap, have a terrible workout just remember that you showed, and continue to “be better today than yesterday, better tomorrow than today”. WOD on Killas!
