So many people who decide to try CrossFit often feel anxiety and fear.  This is understandable, as most see CrossFit on T.V. and watch incredible athletes compete on the world stage.  They immediately compare their abilities and bodies to the top 0.5% of CrossFitters.  What they don’t realize is, beginners are what CrossFit is all about; it has always been that way. When a new athlete comes into a box and he or she has a difficult time doing a few Lunges, Burpees, and Sit Ups, it reminds us all where we came from.  Some people start at different levels but the truth remains, we all felt the same way when we did our first CrossFit workout.
This is the strength of our community, as we experience failure, success, and pain, we grow closer together. The “elite” athletes or “fire breathers” as they are called in CrossFit, are often looked up to by new athletes. The truth is, as you grow into CrossFit you just keep finding weaknesses and realize you have a lot of work to do.  No true CrossFitter is full of themselves because even the fittest in the world can be beat at a random workout.  What keeps us going is experiencing that desire to get better together.
Growing together is obviously seen when higher level athletes help beginners achieve a hand stand push up or a nice clean.  But it really works the other way around.  No matter how much beginners look up to an advanced CrossFitter and say “that will be me one day”, the elites are motivated on a daily basis by beginners.  They know exactly what you are going through, and how hard you push and how mentally tough you are being. This is ultimate motivation! When someone gets off the couch and performs FRAN (21-15-9 Thrusters and Pullups) no matter how modified, it serves as a serious push for CrossFitters who’ve been around for a while.  You’d be surprised by how much Coaches and even Games competitors are inspired by beginners. There have been days where I just didn’t feel like moving but after seeing some of the “killaz” at CrossFit N6 in Keswick, I go all fired up and killed a workout.  So stay strong, keep motivating and inspiring everyone around you.
